Sunday 22 August
Didn't sleep too well last night. Don't know why. It rained all night but woke up to blue sky and sunshine. Hooray! Had a brew with 1/2 an energy bar each. Pleasant riding today. Set off at 8.50 along the remainder of the old railway line then came down to Okehampton. Stopped for breakfast at 9.40 just east of there. Climbed back up then cycled along narrow roads with heavy traffic but then off onto quiet country roads. They followed the contours along the hillside so good views and flat cycling. Came downhill into a few villages with the inevitable climb back up but just steady climbing, not too steep. We were going to stop for a bite to eat and a drink at a pub in Shobrooke, but it was a steep hill down into the village and I was looking in my mirror to check on Peter and completely missed the pub - just whizzed part it! Peter not amused! I suggeste we push our bikes back up the hill, but was not met with a favourable response! I said there was another pub at Thorverton (another 4 miles). We carried on. We had another climb up before another downhill into the village. Didn't miss this one! The landlord, John, didn't do food, but could rustle up a couple of pasties. We enjoyed those with 2 1/2 pints shandy. More friendly locals. Mr Kinley(?) donated money for Ty Gobaith. Arrived at Silverton Inn at 2.10. Weather forecast is dire for tonight, but hopefully will have passed over by tomorrow morning. Total mileage: 32.04 miles. Highest point today: 900 ft. Height now: 314 ft

Very well done Lin & Pete. We see you're only about 18 miles from Wellington. If you want a break you can leave your bikes at Adrian's place and we can collect you by car tomorrow for a stopover at ours and return you to W'ton next day. Otherwise we'll just come to W'ton and cheer you on. Up to you.

According to the Met office http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/ it is rather moist outdoors. Maybe tommorow is a good day for some R&R? Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteHope you survived the night, I know we are 100 miles east of you but it heaved down all night.
ReplyDeleteCornwall sounded really tough.
Well done to both of you.
